La legislación de hogar seguro en Puerto Rico (Ley 195-2011) protege la residencia principal de una persona o familia frente a ciertas ejecuciones por deudas. Para acogerse a esa protección, se otorga un documento notarial que luego se presenta en el Registro de la Propiedad.Puerto Rico's homestead law (Act 195-2011) protects the primary residence of a person or family from certain debt foreclosures. To claim that protection, a notarial document is executed and then filed with the Property Registry.
La protección tiene excepciones importantes: no aplica, por ejemplo, frente a la hipoteca que financió la propiedad ni frente a las contribuciones sobre la propiedad. El licenciado le explicará el alcance real de la protección en su caso.The protection has important exceptions: for example, it does not apply against the mortgage that financed the property or against property taxes.
